Question: Define the working of scanner.

Ans. Scanner is a light-sensing input device. A scanner scans the image of information printed on paper with light. It breaks image into mild and dark dots if image is black and white (In case of shade photograph, it breaks the photo into colour dots). The light dots are represented by charged cells and dark dots by uncharged cells. These dots are then converted into digital form so that the image can be stored into the computer.

Question: Write a brief note on Non-impact printers.

Ans. Non-impact Printers

A non-impact printer prints characters and graphics on a paper without striking paper. The Characters are written on paper with totally different means that like laser, pressure and heat. These printers are faster than impact printers and produce no noise during printing. The print quality of non-impact printers is healthier than impact printers. Different kinds of non-impact printers are Laser printer, Inkjet printer and Thermal printer.

Question: Define static and Dynamic memory devices.

Static Memory Devices

The memory devices that don’t got to be fresh with charge sporadically are known as static memory devices. These are semiconductor memory devices. These are faster than dynamic memory devices. SRAM is an example of static memory devices.

Dynamic Memory Devices

The memory devices that don’t want to be refreshed with electric charge periodically are known as static memory devices. These are semiconductor memory devices. Due to refreshing again and again it is slow memory. DRAM is an example of dynamic memory devices.

Question: Write a short note on Computer Software.

Ans. Computer Software

A set of directions given to laptop|the pc} to resolve a specific problem is named software system or computer software. Software tells the pc what to try and do and the way to try and do. Therefore, a computer performs different operations according to given instructions. Software is developed by writing directions in artificial language.

Question: Describe RAM. List its different types.

Ans. RAM

RAM stands for Random Access Memory. Random access means every individual byte in entire memory will be accessed directly. RAM is employed to store knowledge and directions briefly. A program should be loaded into RAM before execution. RAM is volatile memory. It means that its contents are lost when the power is turned off. RAM is a read/write memory.

Types Of RAM

RAM is divided into two types.

  1. DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory)
  2. SRAM (Static Random Access Memory)

Question: What is Access time in memory devices RAM?

Ans. The amount of time required by a processor to read data from memory or write data to memory is called Access time. This time is taken in nanoseconds. A computer’s access time directly affects the processing speed of a computer. In PC or MAC, fast RAM chips have an access time of 70 nanoseconds.

Question: Explain briefly System Development with reference to information system development.

Ans. System Development

In System Development section, The code of programs or software is written. The code of software is written in any programming language. This phase is very important phase of the information system development process. The program specifications, algorithms, flowcharts are given to the programmers or software engineers to write the code of the programs.

Question: Define Cycle Time.

Ans. Cycle Time

The amount of time required to perform read or write operation on a specific memory location and then return to its original state ready for the next operation is called cycle time. This time is taken in nanoseconds. Cycle time is normally longer than access time.

Question: Distinguish between Random Access Memory and Sequential Access Memory.

Random Access Memory

A type of memory on which CPU can perform read and write operations randomly is called Random Access Memory (RAM). It is read and write memory. It is as a result of CPU will perform each read/write operations on RAM. It is very fast memory. Access time is same for any memory location.

Sequential Access Memory

A type of memory on which CPU can perform read and write operations sequentially is called Sequential Access Memory. The information is read and stored in sequential order i.e. one after the other. It is very slow memory. Access time is different for different locations.

Question: Define main components of computer?

Ans. A computer consists of two main components one are called hardware and the other called software.

It is that part of a laptop which might be touched and seen directly. So , hardware is that the physical element of a computing system. Some common examples of hardware are keyboared, mouse, printer, processor etc.

It is that type of component of a computer which can not be touched and seen directly So, it is the non-physical component of computer system. Common examples of software are Windows, Microsoft office etc software are of two types one is, Application software and the other is System software.

Question: Define Data, information, Computer program, operating system, input devices and output devices. Also give examples.

Ans. Data

The collection of facts and figures that aren’t in organized type is named data.

The raw form of information is called data.

The facts and figures that are in organized type is named information.

The process data is called information.

Computer program

It is a collection of directions that the computer follows to resolve a drag or to try to to a helpful task. It is also called software.

Operating system

It is a system software system that creates the hardware and different software system useful. without OS, it is not possible for a user to work on computer system. It is the primary software system that is put in on a recently bought computer system.

Dos, Windows, Unix, Linux etc.

Input devices

Any thing through which we can enter data in to a computer system is called input devices.

Keyboared , mouse etc

Output devices

Any thing through which we can get information from a computer system is called output devices.

Monitor , Printer etc.

Question: Define memory and it’s types.

It is that a part of laptop wherever knowledge and programs are hold on.

Types of memory: There are 2 kinds of memory

1 – Main memory or primary memory

2 – Secondary memory or Auxiliary memory

Main memory

Main memory is directly connected to processor. In different words we can say that it’s on-line to processor. Due to this reason it’s faster in speed than secondary memory. It’s speed of accessing and storage is quicker but it’s restricted size and thus will store restricted quantity of information.

Main memory is also called internal memory. It s further divided into two types which are RAM and ROM.

Secondary memory

Secondary is not directly connected to processor. In different words we are able to say that it’s offline to processor. It is connected to processor through “RAM”. Due to this reason it’s slower in speed than main memory. It’s speed of accessing and storage slower. However it’s an oversized size and therefore will store a large quantity of information as compared to main memory. So the main purpose of secondary memory is to extend storage capability.

Question: Define ROM and it’s types.

ROM stand for ‘Read Only Memory’. ROM is the second type of main memory. It is permanant or non-volatile memory because when computer Switched OFF the contents of ROM do not get lost. The contents of ROM are special programs which are used in the ‘booting process’ of computer. These programs are called boot strap routines’ which are frequently required. We can solely browse knowledge and programs from ROM. We can not write our data or programs into ROM by simple technique. Due to this property it’s known as browse solely Memory. Also we are able to not delete and modify its contents.

ROM is further sub divided into four types which are:

  • PROM
  • Flash Memory
